dasan interiors

I’d like to introduce you to a new friend of mine, Anita Martens of Dasan Interiors. I met Anita at Kimberley Seldon’s Business of Design book launch party in Calgary and she was not shy to come right on over and introduce herself. We soon met for coffee and a special trip to her storage space where I found many treasures.

I’ll turn it over to Anita so she can share her vision with you as well as a small sampling of her inventory. Take it away Anita!

I have been in the Retail/Design field for 20 years.  After moving to Calgary 4 years ago, I had the privilege of working at “The French Connection Interiors”.  Following the close of “The French Connection” we felt it was time to bring my lifelong dream to fruition. I am excited to introduce Dasan Interiors Inc.

The concept for Dasan Interiors is to provide beautiful, one of a kind pieces to the Design and Retail community. Be they antiques, reproductions or new; quality will always be at the forefront of each selection.

It has become very evident that Calgary is ready to embrace the exciting concept that Europeans have adopted for hundreds of years.  And that is mixing the old with the new.  There is nothing more beautiful than walking into a room, be it modern, contemporary or traditional, where history has been given the opportunity to breathe new life into a space.

Along with the history and uniqueness of the pieces, antiques play an important role in our care and concern for the environment.  By recycling these treasures, we not only reduce the need for mass production, we also preserve a piece of heritage to pass on to future generations.

I have put a lot of work into sourcing some wonderful vendors this past year.  The majority of pieces I bring in are from Europe.  There is also a line of new items that have an industrial feel which are constructed from antique elm and pine which are also out of Europe.

I have met some amazing people along this journey, inspiring me and encouraging me in my passions.
Thank you, Nyla, for being one of those inspiring people.

Vintage Louis XV Chairs –  Belgium – Original frame finished in Gustavian grey with slight distress.

Antique French Empire Commode  – Beautiful original piece with marble top and original key! Also has winged mirror available (1920c)

Left: Pine Armoire – This is a new piece but has been constructed out of Antique Pine Boards. Right: Antique Chandelier – Belgium

Left: Cross Back Chairs – Cane seating with wood frame and metal cross back (new). Right: Black Lacquer Table – Reproduction piece beautifully finished with polished nickel accents.

Vintage Louis XVI  Settee – Original frame with slight distressing finished in Gustavian Grey from Belgium. Beautifully upholstered in Europe. Back of Settee done in  grain sack fabric.

Thank *you* Anita! It’s been a pleasure to get to know you and I can’t wait to see what other fabulous finds you collect during your travels.

  4. I quite like the bench. It would look good in my wife’s and my master bedroom. Maybe I could send in pictures. I heard of a product you “dabble” in called Design In A Box.

  5. Anita has a wonderful eye for beautiful things. I was so impressed with her collection when I viewed it. She is providing such a wonderful bit of variety for us here in Calgary, and I’m grateful to have this resource at my fingertips!
