publications: my home in avenue magazine

Welcome! Come on in. I’m so happy to have you. I’ve been working hard at getting the finishing touches in place. You see, it’s a little unnerving having you over but please, sit down, and I’ll tell you a bit about our space. Can I get you a coffee?

We moved into our home over six years ago. With zero landscaping and an unfinished basement we had plenty of work ahead of us in both time and money. Landscaping took priority but soon after we embarked on the design and construction of our lower level.

The construction part was fairly smooth and quick, however outfitting it has taken time to find the right pieces and of course save the money to purchase. I am happy to say we are done and I’m thrilled to have the space featured in the June issue of Avenue, Calgary’s premier lifestyle magazine.

As a studio space used for board games, entertaining, homework and crafts, this area is a high traffic space with loads of storage and family friendly surfaces.

A small bar area built into a space we ‘borrowed’ from the storage room during the build process.

A sitting area with patterned chairs next to the garden doors brings the inside out and outside in. Being a walkout is of course a huge advantage letting immense amounts of light in on the three main areas of the lower level.

The media area where we hang out, relax and play.

The chest in the distance is at the base of the stairs so a nice view from the top to welcome you down. A wall of family memories fills the left side while a paneled wall detail hides access to the furnace and storage room.

An ensuite style bathroom services the bedroom for guests as well as the main area. A small yet very functional space.

The guest bedroom is simple, fun and fresh housing the most comfortable bed in the house. For real!

Our thoughtful and careful planning for both now and down the road has been successful as we use this space almost daily. It’s comfortable, inviting and filled with memories and collectibles sure to be added to as time goes on.

Thanks so much for popping by. You’re welcome anytime!
