a winter reprieve in maui

Happy New Year! I hope you enjoyed rest and relaxation over the holidays and most importantly time with family and friends. We ventured to Maui over the break and loved it. Not only was it our first time to Maui but it was the first time we had traveled this time of year. What a wonderful reprieve from the treacherous winter we’ve been experiencing in Calgary this year. I’m already plotting and scheming as to how we can get back! Here are some of my favourite photos.

  1. Hey Nyla – enjoyed looking at your Maui shots :-)
We went to maui for the last 2 winter vacations. We had a great time staying at private condos on west Maui – Honokawai.
Though we enjoyed it, we found that we would really love to have a more tropical and quiet vacation – we found the highway and all the shopping a bit annoying – and noisy. We were looking for something more authentic hawaii. Someone told us to check out vacation rentals near Hana or Paia. We checked them out and they look amazing. I think we might do that next time.
I’m telling you this because as a designer you might enjoy the incredible architecture and design of the homes that are available in Hana or Paia :-)

    Mahalo!

      Hi Fiona!
It’s hard to find much wrong with Hawaii but I agree things can get commercial and busy at times. Oddly enough we shopped only one morning aside from wandering the beach town of Paia. Loved it there! We enjoyed having the amenities of pools and beach close by and stayed near the condo most days. With small kids in tow those things make it an easier vacation for Mom and Dad! We toured around other parts of the island and would love to have traveled the road to Hana but our oldest would not have managed the windy roads well! We also really wanted to check out Molokini for snorkeling. All things to add to the “next time” list!
Always love hearing tips from others. Thanks for sharing!!
