lately loving: patterned sheet sets

Bedrooms have been a popular space for us to design as of late. From bedding to wall decor, lighting and accessories there are endless ways to make a personal space for one to find rest and relaxation after a long day. We find most of our clients embrace solid colours in bedding however we love to suggest the addition of patterned sheets as a way to add a subtle amount of pattern, interest and maybe even colour! Step away from the inclination that patterned sheets represent cartoons or action figures, these options are bold, graphic, sophisticated and will add charm to any bedroom.

gift guide: for the boys

If you have a hard to buy for guy in your life like I do, I’m forever frustrated with wondering what to get him. I remember as teenagers we both used to put our wish list items on hold for our Mom’s so they were able to purchase the exact right things. Now 20+ years later I sometimes wish my husband would do the same in order to avoid returns and exchanges. Instead, I asked him to prepare a gift guide “for the boys”, of things he suggests for the style savvy guy which in turn should also give me a few ideas. Sneaky, right?!

gift guide for guys

friday link love, coffee required

At this time of year I start to brace myself. Next weekend will start the busiest month of the year next to December. Crazy June I like to call it. This is my last weekend of quiet (quiet-er anyway), however I will be up for early morning swim practices Saturday and Monday. Hubs is going to do the Tuesday morning practice and… how many more years until she can drive herself??? Coffee will most certainly be needed and I think I might try and pit stop into one of my favourite coffee shops between the pool and the dance studio. Wish me luck!

phil & sebastian coffee shop If you’re so inclined, enjoy some weekend reading and inspiration while you sip your coffee. Whatever you’re up to… Happy weekend!

From modern to traditional… 33 design ideas for kids rooms.

Came across a ‘new-to-me’ blog, Julep from the folks at minted.

Chatelaine is 85 this month and their magazine and website have never looked better. They’re pulling inspiration from the archives and sharing it here.

I’m in love with the new women’s fashion accessories S&L from Serena and Lily!

Pretty up your desk top with a new wallpaper.

friday link love

Yay Friday! It’s been a busy, yet productive week and I’m looking forward to the weekend even though I’ve got a laundry list of things to do. Most of all I’m just so darn thankful for the sunshine and warmer weather.

spring The main topic of conversation around town has definitely been the weather. +15 one day, snowing the next. Spring in Alberta is not really spring, and this year it’s the winter that will never die. Anyway, I digress… thankfully we’ve seen a turn around in the last few days and we’re into double digits. Hallelujah!

Whether you’re inside, outside, hanging at kids activities or having a weekend to yourself, here are some favourite links from the week.

1. 10 best outdoor living trends.

2. Loved this post on investing in your business.

3. My good friend and gallery owner started a blog “fine art conversations”.

4. Colour happy accessories and some Mother’s Day gifts sure to please.

5. A perfect weekend snack.

Have a great weekend. See you Monday!

trend from tent london: graphic

Tent London is a multi faceted design show and considered one of the most creative events in the design calendar. It boasts over 200 established, yet up and coming interior product designers. These companies are pushing boundaries, with colour combinations and graphic patterns, a trend I spotted each and every row I traveled.

Seaside inspired, Zoe Murphy uses textiles and imagery on recycled furniture encouraging a ‘love what belongs to you’ mindset.

Vintage toys, childhood memories and travel continue to inspire the designers of Mini Moderns where they’ve mastered the art of pattern in their own voice on such items as pillows, wallpaper, fabrics, rugs and ceramics.

Luxurious bohemian patterns is all you really need to say to pique your interest of Surfacephilia. A sketched approach to the design of wallpapers, cushions, bone china and greeting cards, the depth and interest in each pattern caught my eye instantly.

It doesn’t get more classic than black and white, however award winning print design company Erica Wakerly, has taken the graphic combination and softened it. Their approach to interior textiles and wallpaper is described as ‘Modern and delicate. Distinct, but not overpowering’.

Lovers of colour and inspired by their surroundings of nature, art and fashion, Parris Wakefield Additions collection is bold and graphic. With a strong and successful background in graphic design they’ve embraced interiors with their collection of cushions, fabrics, rugs and wallpapers.

What I loved about BlogTour London and the London Design Festival was the diverse visual eye candy that did not disappoint day after day. Each show, showroom tour and not to mention BlogTour London participants, brought a different approach to design, inspiring avenues of reaching their end product as well as a style so apparently unique to everyone,  you couldn’t help but be filled with the vigor to go forth and create!

blanco: cerana series fireclay sink

The detail in interior design is wide spread. It starts from the concept. Whether a decorative project, full scale renovation or new build, the decision making process begins at the onset and continues right through to the final styling stage. There are choices made for function, some aesthetic and others where both are top of mind.

With stainless steel being the most popular choice, a sink is typically considered a utilitarian object, one that serves a purpose rather than a decorative detail. Not necessarily a focal point of the kitchen, one decides upon width to fit the existing cabinet, bowl sizes and depth as function prevails over the overall look.

Ready to think outside the box?

Blanco has introduced a fireclay sink called CERANA. A modern approach to a century old technique, Cerana has a unique ability to suit modern and traditional design styles with the flip of a side, all while boasting the durability of a surface that won’t stain, chip or fade. Brilliant if you ask me!

Blanco has created a video to share more about the process of this versatile apron sink. You’ll see more of it’s craft and gain an appreciation for the handmade quality of each piece. If you’re in the midst of, or considering a kitchen renovation, this sink is worth a second glance as it offers a functional size and depth while keeping style at the forefront.

Unlike decorative objects that come and go, a sink or faucet is a purchase to stand the test of time. Making a classic choice without compromising design and style is always the perfect choice.

While Blanco carries a wide variety of sinks and faucets for your kitchen and bathroom renovation needs, this sink in particular is one of my new favourites. Now, who’s ready for a kitchen renovation so I can spec this sink?!

Here’s how you can stay connected with Blanco: Canadian website, American website, UK website, facebook, twitter, pinterest and of course they’re a huge supporter and sponsor of BlogTour.

artist: heyday design

During my recent trip to Vancouver I wandered into the Gallery of BC Ceramics on Granville Island. A simple space, filled with lovely pieces of pottery. Traditional and modern, colourful and natural. Each piece was a handmade treasure. I did walk out with a purchase, however this artist in particular caught my eye and I immediately fell in love with her whimsy, simplicity and homage to such simple objects as canning jars.

Perhaps you’ve heard of Claire Madill, the artist behind Heyday Design, however I just couldn’t help but introduce her again. Inspired by vintage kitchen wares, Claire breathes new life into unassuming objects that seem to find her, and turns them into beautiful art pieces. I adore this collection of ceramic canning jars that exude a functional beauty.

Supporting young, up and coming artisans gives you the joy of not only owning a piece of their art, but also supporting their future endeavors. Great things to come from Claire I’m sure! For information on purchasing, please visit the where to buy section of Claire’s website.

I can certainly tell that Claire creates from her heart, the sign of a true artist.
