the new elte cafe

A visit to ELTE is never complete without the fuel to spend 4-6 hours shopping the entire store. While there in January the cafe was closed making way for one bigger and better. I got a peek behind the tarps during construction but I’ve just learned the new cafe is complete and open for business. Congrats ELTE!

Elte cafe Elte cafe Elte cafe Love the dramatic black walls and industrial chic approach to the design. I’m looking forward to having coffee and yummy food close by for my next visit.

restaurant: modern steak

During our recent trip to Phoenix we did some shopping at Fashion Square Mall in Scottsdale. We had been given a restaurant recommendation by a friend so our intention was to do a quick shop at Fashion Square and then head off to our other destination. Our plans soon changed when we walked through the doors and saw Modern Steak, a restaurant that I had not expected to see at a mall of all places! Needless to say we decided to stay for lunch.

Modern Steak is beautifully designed with an incredible amount of attention to detail. It was like eye candy! So many things to look at and admire. The designer, Cathy Hayes, captured a certain glamour and elegance without feeling too contrived, and all the while offering a comfortable environment for even a family with young children to eat!

It was perfect. Oh and the food was great as well! Definitely worth a visit if you are in the Phoenix/ Scottsdale area. Sitting on the patio with my family, good food and beautiful decor… one of the highlights of my vacation!

How can you go wrong with palm trees welcoming you inside? A more detailed look at the patio further down, however this photo shows the ‘ceiling’ of the exterior, a laser cut pattern with a glossy white finish.

The lounge area as you walk in to be seated. A mix of chair styles and fabrics provide a whimsical feel that says “we’re not too serious here – come in and enjoy!” A mirrored ceiling accentuates the colours, patterns and textures.

The ceiling in the dining area is definitely one of the show-stopping design elements. I loved examining all the details, right from the moulding around the pillars to the pattern on the rug. The restaurant had an overall colour palette of creamy white and a greyed out blue. Then pops of bright, saturated colours including orange, raspberry, lime green and turquoise were added for an unexpected twist of fun.

Another area of the lounge that offers banquette style seating, more wall panelling and an antique serving piece.

The secluded outdoor patio with orange lacquered chairs, a fireplace, carrera marble table tops, blue and green banquette seating and the same flooring that flows right out from the lounge area for a cohesive feel.

There is just so much about this restaurant to love. I hope you enjoyed the images and perhaps can visit for yourself one day!

Note: I did take my own photographs that I had planned to share with you. However after finding the above images on the internet I realized that they did a MUCH better job of giving you an overall glimpse into the restaurant. Photos via www.azcentral.com.
