Lately Loving: Maps

They say February is the most popular month to plan travel. I can appreciate this given the record snowfall our city has seen this year. If you're a skier, you're likely jumping for joy. Others may be  planning they're next escape to warmer and more inspiring locales.

I'm kind of obsessed with travel and more specifically, maps. I love understanding the location of cities, countries in proximity to other countries and the overall wonder and hope of visiting far away places. I am up for travel at any time. My bags are packed and ready at the door should any adventure await. I come by it honestly as my grandmother was the same way. Road trip, flight, glamorous or not, she was ready and she loved going places. Anywhere. She was lucky enough to travel the world prior to her passing and this makes my heart happy.

A friend of mine has a cork board wall map from Conquest on Etsy where she pins the locations of where they've been, where they're going and where they hope to visit using colour coded push pins. Essentially a travel vision board. I love the thought of putting it out there so you can see it on a daily basis, in an effort to not only dream but make those thoughts and ideas come to fruition.

We have incorporated maps of sorts into a few areas in projects at Nyla Free Designs which of course I love. Whether situated as a coffee table book or placed on a wall, I love embracing all that the world has to offer and the potential of experiencing it's magnitude and diversity.

I coveted this atlas we used on the coffee table/ ottoman of our Varsity Estates clients home with it's fabric cover and worn edges.

At our Sylvan Lake project we installed a wall to wall, floor to ceiling world map in the guest room

Another wall to wall, floor to ceiling application, this whimsical map of the world for a kids playroom is complete with illustrations representing each part of the world. By Murals Wallpaper. More photos of this project coming soon to our Portfolio!

Loving all things travel and experience related, we compiled our favourite map related products to get you in the mood to explore this amazing world.

With a vast world, full of opportunity and ready to explore, why not have some fun incorporating maps into your home decor to go along with the planning, documenting and dreaming.
