NFDI Studio: Mood Board Reveal

I don’t know where our inspiration came from but it wasn’t an overnight success with respect to pulling this all together. In fact, there are still some decisions to be made, however they’re not essential to construction, so I feel as though we have some time.

Last September we gathered around our island after sourcing several finishes and materials. We organized everything by area and then jumped for joy when we figured we’d made all the necessary decisions in record timing.

It wasn’t long after before we reviewed and decided to make changes. Whether based on cost, or simply rethinking the selections, we went back to square one on a few areas. Some of our selections have remained the same, such as our floor. I have loved the Louis VIX line from Divine for years and this has been a steadfast selection that I can’t wait to walk into everyday.

I’ve also had a fabric sample from Kravet | Lee Jofa on my office pin board for years, hoping it might work for a project one day. As we were talking through materials it finally found a home.

At the core of our selections, we knew we wanted to elevate, sophisticate and warm up our office space. Was there anything wrong with what our office space looked like before? No. Was it a reflection of our current style, brand or the feeling we wanted to convey? No.

Making the decision to stay in our existing office space meant a renovation. We work a little differently now, and we want the office to align with the work we do, calibre of our projects, and a new level of aesthetic.

If there’s one thing we prioritize with every project, it’s to bring to the forefront the look and feel that resonates and reflects the personality and lifestyle of our clients. The “one of a kind” approach is critical and essential to how we work at our core.

Our office is Nyla Free Designs’ home. We want it to reflect us as a company, and a brand. We want everyone who walks in to feel at home, whether it’s their style or not.

We’ve talked about the concept of Miximalism, and I feel this wholeheartedly describes my style. It’s a little bit of this…and a little bit of that. The new eclectic. It celebrates all eras, all styles, and mixes them in a celebratory, cohesive, unexpected way that feels right. This is exactly my personal aesthetic, and how our office too, has evolved.

Mixing English, Italian, Modern, Mid-Century, Moroccan, French and Contemporary, to name a few, was not intentional, rather a means of selecting things that we love, creating a harmony of eras and styles. Infuse into the mix, colour and pattern. We’ve brought our beloved yellow into a few areas, and paired it with shades of rusty reds, pinks and warm browns.

Designing spaces for ourselves is always hard. We see so much and love so much, it’s difficult to make a decision. There’s also the pressure, because I think people place a high regard on designers’ own spaces and expect them to be really beautiful. The important thing about design is that not every design aesthetic or outcome will resonate with everyone, but it’s also important to accept that. We’re excited about our office design, and that’s what truly matters.

Thanks for getting excited with us!
