Confessions of an Interior Designer: NFDI Style Update

In a typical magazine, the acknowledgements page consist of at least twenty people, varying from multiple editors and photographers, to marketing managers and art directors. I looked at House & Home, Martha Stewart Living, Architectural Digest and Magnolia to confirm. For NFDI Style, there are only two of us drumming up content, photographing, writing, editing, art directing, and marketing each issue. We do however, have the support of 2-3 others depending on the type of content and issue.

To be fair, NFDI Style started as a small lookbook aimed at connecting seasonally with our audience in an authentic, on-brand way. It’s slowly grown, and is now upwards of 60+ pages (pretty much a magazine), and an extension of our interior design brand, with a lifestyle approach.

I have always loved magazines, and still do. The editorial, and art directing aspect is something that brings me great joy. NFDI Style is a passion project for me (us), and we pour our heart and soul into each issue.

Print magazines, at minimum, work months in advance, if not years. We too, take a similar approach as our issues are seasonal, so celebrating each respective time of year means content is created a year in advance. Oftentimes however, depending on the topic, there is still much that requires last minute idea building, photographing and writing. Truth be told, we’re more often than not doing final tweaks, and edits the night before an issue is sent out to our readers, a benefit of being a digital magazine.  With all of this in mind, we’ve made a tough, yet necessary decision to not publish a Fall 2022 issue. Based on our current workload, and project status, we simply don’t have the bandwidth to put forth a publication to the level of quality we’ve become known for.

Rest assured we have an exciting Christmas issue in the works. Until then, we plan to share a few extra blog posts and newsletters as we head into a season of gratitude, and goulish celebrations. We’re so incredibly grateful for you, our readers, and all of those who follow along with us. The kind notes and comments we receive from you truly make our hearts happy.

NFDI Style started in the winter of 2019, with a 16 page launch issue, and has grown to be something so much more than we imagined. We’re about to head into our fifth year with excitement and enthusiasm. 2022 has been a year of big and small decisions. We opted to stay in our office space for now, we’ve hired new team members, and we’ve rooted ourselves more and more into what we believe in, and are passionate about. We’re not sure what the future holds for NFDI Style magazine but we love it, and plan to keep creating and producing a lifestyle driven magazine with the aesthetics of home in mind. We have content ideas for years to come!

Have ideas you’d love to share? Content you’d love to see? Interested in getting involved? Have, or know of a small business you feel would benefit from a collaboration, and is the right fit with the NFDI brand? Comment below, send us an email at connect@nylafreedesigns.com or shoot off a DM on Instagram. We’d love to hear from you!

Thank you, as always, for your support. Our Christmas issue will be here before we know it!
