Confessions of an Interior Designer: Cancel Christmas?

Last year I wanted to cancel Christmas. We were mid renovation, our house was torn apart and we had no kitchen. I had a bah-humbug attitude. I wanted no decor, no baking and minimal effort for the day. I had zero Christmas spirit.

This was the state of our home. (I drew in where our tree normal goes)

Just wow. And, did I mention we lived through all of this??

That’s a story for another time.

When I was looking for images from Christmas Day last year, I have nothing. The photo of Lola and one of a white tree (is that even a thing??) is all I could find. My husband put up the tree in our bedroom so we had somewhere to gather around and open presents. That’s all. What a shame! I look back now and wish I had captured more of that day. I had my head in the sand, or snow, and I regret not capturing the memories of what life was like for us that year.

Just as Christmas was different for us last year, there is no doubt, it will not be the same for any of us this year. But I’m ready for it, SO wholeheartedly ready to knock Christmas out of the park. I’ve got my Christmas mojo back.

I’m ready to spark joy, relish in all things home, and have one epic Christmas. From music, to baking, to decorating, I’m going to embrace this season for its beauty, and all its feel good charm.

It’s rough out there. It is. We’re all experiencing a rollercoaster of emotion, fatigue and uncertainty. It’s truly hard. But a new season is upon us and we’re here to help make Christmas, “the most wonderful time of the year”, a little easier and a lot less stressful.

We’ve been in Christmas planning mode for months already at NFDI and we can’t wait to share more of our Christmas spirit with you. We’ll be sharing a Christmas planning downloadable calendar, table setting inspiration for the most intimate of gatherings, decor ideas, recipes and much, much more. Our Lookbook is also well underway, so if you’re on our email list, expect to see our last edition of the year in your inbox November 18th. Subscribe here if you’re not yet on the list!

If one thing’s for sure, I’m going to do my best to end 2020 on a high note, and making the most of the holiday season will be part of that. I know Covid isn’t going anywhere, anytime soon, but I do know I don’t have to cancel the Christmas Spirit.

Cheers to having the coziest, Covid Christmas EVER.
