Life at Home: Loving Your Home

It’s no secret the amount of time we’re all spending in our homes these days is exponentially different. Whether we’re now working from home, used to being at home but now have more people around, or find ourselves reinventing how we live and work, it’s natural to look around and feel as though some changes may be in order in your home.

This is the first of three posts, a series if you will, about loving your home. Whether you simply need to move furniture around, you’re thinking you may need to renovate, or you find the size of your home is not ideal anymore and you’ll need to hit the real estate market or build a new home. We’ll be sharing ideas, insights and a plan forward for these thoughts, ideas and decisions.

Today’s post focuses on minimal spending for maximum impact. It’s the first step in making changes to finding a new, or renewed love for your home. It’ll get creative juices flowing and allow you to move forward

Rearrange Your Furniture

  • You might find the existing layout isn’t conducive to how you’re currently living. Switching things up by reorganizing your room layout may give you a new lease on your space. Or prompt you to think differently about the furniture you currently have.

  • Perhaps you had a sofa and a chair, but now you’re thinking a sectional might be best. That’s a fairly easy fix with relatively minimal cost depending on where you order from.

  • The following retailers are just a few of our go to’s if you’re needing to fill up some space in your home quickly and easily: Article, West Elm, & EQ3.

Change Up Your Wall Decor

  • If you have a collection of art, moving pieces around and relocating will add a fresh vibe to your space.

  • Have minimal art but a million photos? With organization at it’s peak right now, gather family photos for a gallery wall as you stroll down memory lane. Now’s the perfect time to hone in on time with loved ones and remember those special moments.

  • You can find DIY wall kits from these favourite retailers, and have them shipped right to your house: IKEA, Pottery Barn, & Crate & Barrel.

Switch Out Your Light Bulbs

  • Lighting is a huge source of mood and overall feeling. Warmer light makes us feel good and offers a sense of comfort.

  • LED is the way of the future but they don’t need to be harsh and cold. A 2700k bulb offers warmer light and all the energy saving benefits.

  • Want to know all the lighting in’s & outs? Here’s a detailed guide to help you make the right choice in selecting the best lighting for your home.

Purge

  • Out with the old, and hold off on the new. Ok, I know that’s not the exact saying but having a moment to live with less is a great way to discern what you actually need.

  • Go through closets of clothes, outerwear, shoes and storage rooms. You’ll be amazed at what you’ll find and realize what you’ve lived without for so many years already.

  • There are people in need at the best of times and our current situation is no exception. If you can donate to a good cause it’s a win | win.

  • As the seasons change outside, it does so in our closets too. Whether hiding those sweaters away in the back of your closet or taking them out completely, Canadian Tire offers a variety of Closet Systems to help you prioritize organization.

Re-accessorize

  • Book shelves, coffee tables, bedside tables, vanities, you get the drift! Now is a great time to “play” and “putter”, having fun with moving pieces around. I also find styling quite methodical and therapeutic.

  • Having something new to look at is a welcome view, even if it’s a fresh bouquet of flowers from the grocery store. Treat yourself to something pretty!

  • Whether adding in brand new accessories to style, or repurposing what you already own, we’ve got a few tips & tricks to help you maneuver the styling game!
